I finished a quilt!!

What a feeling to finally have a completed quilt project!  This little crib quilt was started about four years ago.  When my now 7 yr. old was 2, he saw some train fabric in a quilt store that he wanted.  He is too old for it now so it's probably going to one of my nephews.

I bought enough to make an Easy Breezy quilt.  I finished the top in about a week , but got stuck at the point of actually quilting it.  That's quite typical for me and a major reason I have so many unfinished projects.  I used this project to practice free motion quilting.

I even played with some machine attachments I rarely use like the plexi-glass cover that can be placed around the machine to give a level work surface.  It did help to be able to push and turn the quilt around while I quilted.  It made me feel like such a professional!

I have three other quilts that are quilted, but I still need to stitch on the binding.  That's a project that takes some time, but one of my favorite take alongs to piano lessons or carpool lines.  My next post will be about learning to use professional long-arm quilting machine at a local quilt shop!  It's going to revolutionize my life!

Valentine Swap Ornaments

Look what arrived in the mail on a very snowy day!

It's so much fun to wait for a package like this!  I received three ornaments and two lovely cards.  This first ornament was created by Michele.  The front and back are both fabulously full of glitter!

The second ornament is from Cami .  It's so very pretty with the dried rose and in a tiny glittered matchbox.

The third ornament is made by Pam.  I love what she did with these wooden hearts, and both sides are equally beautiful!

Each swapper was also to create a paper Valentine, and this is the one I received from Michele.  It's really lovely, and I'm afraid my photo doesn't do it justice.

Our swap hostess, Laurie, sent this fabulous card.  She used vintage wallpapers and bookpages to make three dimensional hearts.  I would love to try doing this myself!

Now I just have to decide how I'm going to display my lovely little ornaments!  Happy Valentine's Day!

My Valentine Project

This month I participated in a Valentine swap hosted by Laurie Jackson at Indulge Your Shelf.  We were to make a 1-3 inch ornament.  After looking through some crafting magazines for inspiration, I made a heart with flannel, lace, papers and some beading.

After cutting two layers of white flannel, I spritzed the pieces with pink glimmer mist.  I love working with that stuff!  Then I added a layer of gathered tulle, and stitched on some heart shaped papers.  I added some beads, a tiny button and some vintage lace.  There is a lovely flower shaped vintage button with a rhinestone in the center.  I had just enough of the flower buttons for each ornament.

To wrap the hearts, I used a simple doily with some pink embroidery floss for a ribbon.  I wanted to keep it simple.

I also made a paper valentine to share with one of the swappers.  I decided to do a tag style card and stitched papers to the card.

I just barely made the swap deadline but got it all together at the last minute.  Stay tuned for a post showing the gorgeous ornaments I received in the swap!

February Daybook

For Today...

Outside my's been snowing all day, our first real snowstorm for the winter.

I am thinking... it's been much too long since my last post.

I am thankful for...a warm home to snuggle in while it snows outside.

From the kitchen...a chicken is roasting in the oven, and we will have mashed potatoes and gravy, glazed carrots and crescent rolls for dinner tonight.

I am wearing...favorite flannel pants, a sweatshirt and slippers.  I  haven't left the house all day!

I am creating...a small Valentine banner with beautiful swap ornaments I just received today and will finish the binding on a quilt.

I am enjoy a quiet evening with my husband and children.

I am reading...Theotokos by Blessed Pope John Paul II.

I am hoping...that people managed to stay safe on the roads today.

I am hearing...the Creighton BlueJays basketball game on TV in the family room.

Around the husband is watching television, my daughter is reading a book in her room, and the boys are playing video games.  It's been a relaxing day!

One of my favorite things...finally playing with my blog!

A few plans for the rest of the week: I will work on another swap project from December, bind another quilt and write more posts for the blog.

A peek into my day...snow covered trees.
